Life Day 21891: Colonizing in Corinne

June 19, 2007 on 7:41 am | In On The Road |

I’ve been a ’slacker’ again regarding the upkeep of my BLOG. I’ve decided to stop the ‘daily diary’ format, and just post sporatically whenever something interesting happens, or when the mood strikes me (whichever comes first).
Speaking of interesting, I am now full-time at our Walmart facility in Corinne, UT. After I finished the Walmart load which I was on during my last posting, I took another Walmart back down to Las Vegas for some time off to do a 34-hour re-start. When I brought the trailer back to Corrine after my home-time, I took two more Walmart loads (Rock Springs, WY and St. George, UT), then went back ‘over the road’. My first ‘over the road’ load after my stint at Walmart was a load from Green River, WY to Sparks, NV. Par for the course, after I did the drop/hook delivery in Sparks, there was no freight, so I sat for the rest of the day. On Tuesday, the 5th of June, I finally got out of Sparks with a load to Portland, OR. When I went through the Port of Entry at Klamath Falls, OR, I was pulled in for inspection. My tractor passed, but my trailer had no brake lights, so I was put “out of service” until they were repaired. As it turned out, the problem was with my tractor after all. The flimsy teflon nuts on the brake light switch had backed off. Once they were tightened, I was on my way again. Unfortunately, I had to arrange to meet another driver along the route because I couldn’t make the delivery on-time due to of the time wasted on the repairs. We swapped in Coburg, OR. The next day, I deadheaded to Portland and picked up a load to Salt Lake City, UT. This trip was uneventful. When I delivered the load, my first PrePlan was for Walmart in Corrine again. The Terminal Manager there (Corinne) then said he had an opening and asked if I wanted it. I accepted, and am now full-time here in Corinne.
During my last stay at home (Tuesday and Wednesday of last week) my Jeep overheated. I took it to Auto Tech on Tropicana Ave. for the repairs. A little less than $900.00 later, it seems to be running fine. They replaced the radiator which had a crack, the thermostat which was leaking, and the heater control valve which was also leaking (when it rains, it pours). Older cars are fine until something goes awry. I let them talk me into replacing the upper and lower radiator hoses as well. They were showing signs of deterioration and dry rot.
My load is ready, so i’m off to Las Vegas again.
