LIFE DAY 22602: Seething In Salt Lake City
May 30, 2009 on 10:24 pm | In Homefront |I have been feeling a bit under the weather for the last couple of days so I will keep this short. I don’t know what exactly is the matter with me, I just feel achy all over, and extremely lethargic.
I’m not even going to do a chronicle, since there is only one trip about which to write. It all began on Thursday, the 28th. About 0630, I received a PrePlan which was supposed to have picked up in Ontario, CA Wednesday night at 2230. I made the calculations in my head and turned the load down because I couldn’t legally make the delivery in Layton, UT by 0300 on Friday. The Planner messaged me back that they would change the delivery time if I would go ahead and take the load, so I did. I arrived at the shipper a little after 0730. It took them 2½ hours to load the load. Next, I had to drive to our terminal in Fontana to check the weight. It took about an hour, but I finally got the load legal, and started on my way. All day long, I waited for the new Dispatch with the revised delivery appointment, but it never came. I drove to Beaver, UT where my 14-hours expired.
Friday morning, there was still no new appointment, so I drove to our terminal in Salt Lake City, arriving about 1130. I informed my DM about the situation, but still nothing happened. I was drowsy, so I napped most of the day. About 1830, the CSR contacted me asking the status of the load. I told her that I was waiting for (her) to reschedule the delivery appointment, and that I was in the Salt Lake City terminal. That was the last I heard about the load. In the afternoon, I had received a nice PrePlan going to Los Lunas, NM. I thought surely that the appointment would be re-scheduled, and I could do it.
Saturday morning at 0530, they removed my nice PrePlan to New Mexico. Still no new delivery appointment. By now, I’m starting to get a little peeved. It seems that no one wants to take the responsibility to T-call this load and get me on my way. An hour later, I received a second PrePlan which was destined for Portland, OR, but a couple of hours later, they canceled that one also. About 0830, I finally started my truck because it was getting a bit stuffy, only to discover that my warning buzzer for oil, coolant, and air pressure stayed on constantly. I checked all the fluid levels, and the air pressure and all were normal, so I decided to put it in the shop. My left drivers window also isn’t working. The SLC shop referred me to the Kenworth dealership. I drove over there and was immediately put into the shop. The warning buzzer was a breeze to fix. The technician simply unplugged it, and plugged it back in to re-set it. That solved that problem. The drivers window is an altogether different result. After troubleshooting, he found that the problem is the motor for the power window, which were out of stock. (It couldn’t be in the switch, which they had in stock, naturally). After that, I drove back to the terminal. By this time it is about 1330. Still no new delivery appointment. By now, I’m SEETHING. As of this posting, there is still no delivery appointment.
