Life Day 22607: A Rude Awakening

June 3, 2009 on 10:02 pm | In Homefront |

I’ve often been quoted as saying: “I may be getting older, but I refuse to ‘grow up’.” All of that changed Sunday night, May 31st.
I had been feeling ‘poorly’ for a couple of days, and it got progressively worse until, about 1800, I drove myself to the Emergency Room at Pioneer Valley Hospital. Within minutes of my arrival, I was taken back to a room, and 10 minutes after that, I was in formed that I was in the process of having a heart attack. I was immediately
taken into surgery. They installed 2 Stents, entering through the Femoral Artery in my groin. After the procedure, I was taken to the  ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
On Tuesday (mid) afternoon I was transferred to the Cardio unit. I had a huge room all to myself. I was disconnected from everything except the heart monitor so I could easily move about, and after being flat on my back for the better part of 2 days, I took full advantage. I walked up and down the halls as often as I could.
My brother Donald arrived on Wednesday, June 3rd around 1100, and I was released soon thereafter.
