Life Day 23578: Inspire Your Heart With Art Day
January 31, 2012 on 7:37 am | In Homefront | No CommentsGood morning art lovers. Today is Inspire Your Heart With Art Day. No friends, that “Velvet Elvis” painting, or that painting of “Dogs Playing Poker” hanging in your den do not count. Go out and support your local Museum with a visit today.
Additionally, today is Backward Day. I don’t know how to celebrate this one, but I’ll bet that this girl does. Can you pronounce your name backward? Mine is Einre Do ow.
It is also Appreciate Your Social Security Check Day. My Social security check arrives in the middle of the month, and I appreciate it every time.
And finally, it is Brandy Alexander Day. I’m not big on booze in any form, so I’ll just skip this one. If you choose to celebrate this ‘holiday’, please do so responsibly.
Life Day 23577: Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day
January 30, 2012 on 7:43 am | In Homefront | No CommentsGood morning. Today’s first ‘holiday’ is another that is near and dear to my heart. It is often the “little things” in life that afford the most pleasure. Among these for me is Bubble Wrap. Yes, it is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. Go to your local packaging store and buy a small quantity of Bubble Wrap, and ‘pop away’ to your hearts content. It’s very therapeutic. C’mon, you know you want to. Do it.
It is also National Inane Answering Message Day. Before you head of to the packaging store, change that trite, information laden message on your phone to something completely silly. If you already have an inane message on your phone, good for you, you’re my kind of people.
Finally, while you are out shopping for Bubble Wrap, go to a Bakery and buy a Croissant or two, because it is also National Croissant Day. I like mine plain, with just a little butter, and maybe some jelly or honey.
Life Day 23576: Curmudgeon Day
January 29, 2012 on 9:25 am | In Homefront | No CommentsGood morning. Today’s first ‘holiday’ is one created specifically for me. That’s right, today is Curmudgeon Day. I once owned a T-shirt that said “Curmudgeon in Training”, but it has long since gone into the trash. In the decades since, I have matured into a full fledged curmudgeon. It is about time people like me receive the accolades they so richly deserve.
It is also Free Thinkers Day. I believe that people have the Right to think as they wish. However, people do not have the Right to express their opinions by destroying the property of others, or by committing acts of violence toward people with whom they disagree.
Additionally, on a lighter note, it is National Puzzle Day. I am an avid Crossword Puzzle fan and do an average of three per day.
On a ‘warm and fuzzy’ note, today is Seeing Eye Dog Day. Seeing eye dogs, and other service animals are wonderful creatures. They perform a valuable service to their masters. As far as I’m concerned, every day should be “Seeing Eye Dog Day.
And finally, today is National Corn Chip Day. Have some Fritos and dip for a snack this afternoon. How many of you remember Wampum, Granny Goose’s answer to Fritos? Do they still even exist?
Life Day 23575: National Kazoo Day
January 28, 2012 on 11:08 am | In Homefront | No CommentsGood morning everyone. Sorry this is so late. I should have posted it a lot earlier, but I didn’t realize that today was National Blueberry Pancake Day. If you are one of those weirdos who is up and functioning early on a Saturday, I apologize. Mark this date on your calendar for next year. If, however, you’re like me, then enjoy some for breakfast.
It is also National Kazoo Day. If you own a kazoo, you can spend the day annoying your friends. If you don’t own one, you can make a suitable substitute using a comb and waxed paper. If, like me, you no longer need a comb, you can borrow one from a friend or relative.
Last, but not least, it is National Seed Swap Day. I’m reasonably certain that the type of ’seed swap’ referred to here DOES NOT involve the risk of pregnancy, but rather it refers to home gardeners getting together to swap seeds to sow in the Spring.
Life Day 23574: Thomas Crapper Day
January 27, 2012 on 12:45 pm | In Homefront | No CommentsGood morning. Today is Thomas Crapper Day. I know, you ask: “Who is Thomas Crapper, and why does he have his own Day”? This link will explain it all. Basically, he popularized and improved the flush toilet. Since his actual date of birth is unknown, Thomas Crapper Day is celebrated on the anniversary of his death in 1910. Enough of this ‘crap’. Let me get on with the rest of today’s “holidays”.
On a much darker note, today is also Holocaust Memorial Day. We should never forget how and why the Holocaust occurred.
To lighten things up again, in addition, it is Punch the Clock Day. I would like to go on record as saying that I am against any form of chronometer abuse, which is destructive and can be painful. However, I think that this “holiday” refers to the old time clock at work. The reasons why anyone would want to celebrate ‘time clocks’ eludes me, but if you are so inclined, today is the day to do so.
Finally, I will end this on a ’sweet note’ with a day one can really ’sink their teeth into’. Today is Chocolate Cake Day. Now this is a day worthy of celebration, and I intend to do just that.
